The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) has cared for the children and young people of Victoria since it was founded in 1870. As a tertiary and quaternary centre, the RCH cares for the most critically ill and medically complex paediatric patients in Victoria. In addition to providing a full range of clinical services, the hospital also supports many health promotion and prevention programs. With more than 6,000 staff, 12 wards and 350 beds, the RCH is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria, and also provides care for children and young people from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

 

We are the state’s busiest paediatric Emergency Department, often experiencing more than 300 presentations on any given day. The Role:

 

A part time, fixed term Consultant Paediatrician appointment to the department of General Medicine (Outpatients), at the Royal Children’s Hospital.  The successful applicant will join our Gen Med Outpatient team, delivering a fortnightly General Medicine clinic.

 

 

The department of General Medicine is one of the largest departments at RCH.  At any time, up to 100 staff (Senior Medical, Junior Medical, Nursing and Non-Clinical) work in the department.  The department of General Medicine also has 4 subspecialty units within it including Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, Refugee/Migrant Health and Clinical Pharmacology.

  

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivery of a fortnightly Outpatient Gen Med clinic seeing a mix of new and review appointments
  • Participation in risk management and quality programs to improve organizational and own practices

You will have:   

  • Relevant clinical experience and training in paediatrics, gained via a consultant role post FRACP
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRACP – General Paediatrics (or equivalent) 
  • Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA and eligibility for medical registration within Victoria
