The Role:


The Department of Adolescent Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital is a speciality department within the Division of Medicine comprising  Paediatricians, Psychiatrists, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Social Workers and Psychologists working together to provide  inpatient and outpatient care to adolescents aged between 12 – 18 years. The Department is comprised of sub-speciality teams including the Eating Disorders Service, Gender Service, Young People’s Health Service, Chronic Illness Peer Support (ChIPS) Service and Transition Support Services


The Department of Adolescent Medicine have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant to join the Adolescent Medicine team for two sessions a week (0.4 EFT) to conduct an outpatient clinic delivering high quality evidence based medical services for young people and their families.


You will have:

  • The ability to engage young people and their families in processes that promote positive health outcomes
  • Experience in working with adolescents with restrictive eating disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Proven ability to work with adolescents with somatic symptom disorders
  • Experience working with adolescents with gender dysphoria
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development and the ability to practice from a developmental perspective applying principles of evidence based medicine
  • Previous experience working with adolescents who may engage in high risk behaviour
  • Current registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
  • Medicare provider number and be eligible to bill Medicare
