The Position

The RCH Emergency Department (ED) invites applications for this unique position that combines a paediatric emergency medicine (PEM) fellowship with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training

-        This full-time position will be equally split between paediatric emergency medicine and point-of-care ultrasound training

-        There will be an opportunity to extend this dual position with ongoing completion of a PEM fellowship

-        The paediatric emergency medicine fellowship will provide the opportunity to:

  • Gain access in all aspects of paediatric emergency care
  • To gain experience in administrative aspects of running a paediatric emergency department
  • To gain specific procedural experience in the emergency department to enable competent management of paediatric emergencies

-        The ultrasound training will provide the opportunity to:

  • Become expert in ultrasound guided procedures
  • Provide education and tuition in a POCUS educational program
  • Monitor the use and quality of POCUS
  • Be involved in POCUS research
  • Be tutored in diagnostic ultrasound

 To be successful in this role you will have:

-        To be registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)

-        ACEM (Part 1) exam or F.R.A.C.P. exam or equivalent qualification

-        Registered with the Joint Training Committee of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians (desirable)

-        Previous paediatric emergency / adult emergency experience as a senior trainee


-        Intensive care experience (desirable)

-        Demonstrated an interest in POCUS

-        Demonstrated an understanding and experience with adult learning (desirable)
