The department:

The Day Medical Unit is a nurse-led unit that assists in the care and diagnosis of patients from newborns to 18 years, and from many specialty medical departments.   The highly experienced nursing staff perform many tests and procedures, and provide treatment and ongoing management, of patients with chronic medical conditions including: haemoglobin and blood disorders, bone and joint disorders, gastroenterological disorders and immune deficiencies. 


The position:

The CNC Apheresis will support the apheresis unit in performing a range of therapeutic apheresis procedures including but not limited to red cell exchange (RCE – 110 per annum), stem cell collection (approx. 50 per annum), plasma exchange (approx.140 per annum), photopheresis and CAR-T Cell. This will encompass clinical care of patients across a number of specialties including Haematology, Oncology and Nephrology.


To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia ( NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency ( AHPRA)
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in paediatric nursing in an area with high exposure to the management of conditions that require apheresis therapy.
  • Experience with care co-ordination of complex patients with a range of multisystem disorders
  • Relevant post graduate qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification
