The Role:


Our Banksia Ward is a 16 bed adolescent inpatient ward that delivers mental health care to consumers aged 12 to 18 years of age. The Banksia Ward strives to deliver excellent, evidence based mental health care in the least restrictive environment. This includes delivering timely care, with a focus on building family and community supports that aid a safe and timely discharge for the young person.

 

We currently have an exciting new nursing role available for a Nurse Coordinator to join the Banksia Ward. In this role you will support a team working on a clinical quality improvement research project on the Banksia Ward that is targeted at young people with histories of suicide, self- harm and aggression. The aim of this project is to test the clinical usefulness of two interventions that target the young people and the parents respectively. The research team comprises of the Project Leader who will conduct the Parent Psycho Education intervention and a part time Psychologist Research Assistant (RA).

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • High level knowledge in clinical mental health assessments and risk assessments in adolescents, use of Victoria’s Mental Health Act, verbal de-escalation and conflict resolution, and a good understanding of pharmacotherapy utilised in emergency mental health clinical situations.
  • Post graduate certificate in mental health nursing
  • Current Registration with AHPRA Nursing Board of Australia.
