The Department:

Wallaby is a 51 bed ward, in which medically stable children requiring daily/twice daily acute care interventions can complete their admission at home. Whilst at home, children are visited and cared for by a team of qualified RCH medical, nursing and allied health staff who communicate regularly with the child's primary treating medical unit. 


Wallaby provides a Victoria-wide service and we pride ourselves in being one of Victoria's leading hospital-in-the-home programs and strive to utilise new technologies and ideas to improve our delivery of care. Employees provide care for children within a 60 km radius of Melbourne. The Wallaby team will keep in regular contact with the regional service providers and ensure the treating RCH medical unit are updated about the child's care.


The Role:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Maternal and Child Health Nurse to join Wallaby Ward.


The role is in a multidisciplinary team and includes utilising and sharing specialist knowledge, skills and the essence of nursing to improve access, flow and the discharge of patients through RCH. The role includes continued development of the Maternal and Child Health Nurse Service for Wallaby patients.


The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Maternal and Child Health provides expert comprehensive, infant mental health informed (IMH), clinical assessment and intervention for infants and very young children experiencing a range of regulatory and feeding disorders including irritability, feeding refusal, failure to thrive and infants with nasogastric tube dependence.  The Clinical Nurse Consultant will lead education to colleagues and families and participate in research projects.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Advanced organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people through change
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, across disciplines and with key stakeholders.
  • A commitment to the delivery of excellence in infant centred care.
  • A current,  full drivers licence for the State of Victoria which is appropriate for the type of vehicle being driven, and comply with any restrictions on their licence (e.g. wearing glasses) while undertaking hospital duties
