The Role:

An exciting opportunity for a talented social worker to join the RCH Wallaby Ward hospital in the home program. Wallaby is a 51 bed ward in which medically stable children requiring daily/twice daily acute care interventions can complete their admission at home. Whilst at home, children are visited and cared for by a team of qualified RCH medical and allied health staff who communicate regularly with the child's primary treating medical unit.


RCH Social Workers provide comprehensive psychosocial assessment and intervention to improve outcomes for patients and their families.


This position will draw on your experiences in helping parents and children to adjust to changes in health status; grief and loss; trauma, crisis response; responding to vulnerable children and families; parenting strategies and family functioning.


The successful candidate will bring strong team work skills, be an excellent communicator and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.


Participation in the after hours on-call social work service is expected.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Eligibility for membership of AASW and meet AASW CPE accreditation standards
  • Clinical experience recognised in closely related field of practice
  • Demonstrated capacity to respond to vulnerable children, trauma and bereavement
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and effectively articulate the social work role
  • A strong understanding of community resources and legislation relevant to children and families
  • A current full driver's licence
