The Hospital:

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Melbourne is one of the world's great children's hospitals. We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 4500, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

 

The department:

The Emergency Department at The RCH provides urgent medical care to children and adolescents and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Approximately 85,000 patients, ranging from newborns to teenagers, are seen each year.  The Department is staffed by medical, nursing, clerical, allied and administrative staff as well as ward services assistants.  The clinical area has four Resuscitation rooms, twenty general cubicles, 10 bed Fast Track, four Procedure rooms, and an eight bed ED Short Stay Unit. The department is closely associated with the Radiology Department and Dolphin - Medical Short Stay.

 

The role:

We have a vacancy for a senior full time paediatric emergency consultant, to commence in early 2019.  The position is replacing an existing senior full time consultant during the period of their tenure as Chair of PEM.  We seek applications from current part time consultants within the Emergency Department who wish to consolidate their current position to a full time role.  Successful applicants will work within the team of paediatric emergency physicians to provide consultant supervision and direct care of patients in the department.  They will be responsible for the care of all patients who present to the Emergency Department and for meeting Key Performance Indicators.  The successful applicant will also assume a significant non clinical portfolio to actively contribute to departmental operations.   

 

To be successful in this role:

You will have considerable consultant experience in the field of paediatric emergency medicine, with well-developed clinical and leadership skills and a proven ability to work as part of an emergency team.  You must be registered as a medical practitioner with AHPRA and possess a fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
