The Hospital:

The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne (RCH) provides secondary, tertiary and quaternary care to children and young people and their families across Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and parts of South Australia. RCH is the designated statewide provider of services including paediatric trauma, rehabilitation and forensic medicine.

As a quaternary centre for complex cardiac surgery and organ transplantation, as well as other significant subspecialist paediatric services, the RCH cares for the sickest children from around Australia. The hospital employs approximately 5,000 staff and has an annual budget of $620 million and operates out of a purpose-built, multi-award winning building at 50 Flemington Rd, Parkville.  When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville. The Department:

The Allergy and Immunology department provides secondary and tertiary outpatient and inpatient care for children with allergic and immune disorders in Victoria.  This includes children with food, drug, insect sting and latex allergy causing moderate to severe allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis), eczema, asthma and hayfever


The Role:

The Consultant Gastroenterologist in the Department of Allergy & Immunology is responsible for the clinical evaluation, diagnosis and management of RCH outpatients with non IgE mediated food allergy, in accordance with departmental procedures. This position may also involve supervision of advanced allergy-immunology trainees attending the outpatient clinics. The consultant will take full responsibility for the care of these patients and provide high quality education and training to medical staff attending the clinics. As a senior member of the medical team, the consultant will also participate in the RCH Department of Allergy & Immunology teaching programme and research projects.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current registration as a specialist medical practitioner with AHPRA
  • FRACP with completion of accredited advanced training in paediatric gastroenterology
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in the area of paediatric gastroenterology, including the investigation and management of non IgE mediated food allergy
  • Expertise in the diagnosis and clinical care of patients with eosinophilic oesophagitis is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising registrars or fellows in training
  • Full recognition of training in Paediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy by the Conjoint Committee
  • A Current position as a consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition, with a regular endoscopy list
