The Hospital:

The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) provides secondary and tertiary care to children and young people across the northern and western suburbs; specialist paediatric healthcare to the children of Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and parts of South Australia; and is the designated state-wide provider of services including paediatric trauma, rehabilitation and forensic medicine. As a quaternary centre for complex cardiac surgery and organ transplantation, the RCH cares for the sickest children from around Australia.

The Position:

The Director Communications and Engagement is responsible for all facets of communication and engagement across all stakeholder groups and platforms. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing a global strategy which informs, engages and unites internal and external stakeholders and helps deliver great care for children and young people everywhere. Leading a small and dynamic team, the Director will build effective working relationships across RCH and with our Campus and external partners in the delivery of internal and external communications, digital engagement, media and issues management, events, brand management, community information and organisational change. A key component of this role will be helping build a positive well informed workforce through the timely sharing of credible, engaging internal content, via the intranet and other channels. Digital engagement will be a key focus internally and externally along with innovative organisational objectives. This is an exciting and challenging role which will help grow RCH’s influence through supporting advocacy, innovation and collaboration.


To be successful in the role, you will have:


  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with extensive experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated senior level experience in corporate communications in a large and complex organisation
  • Experience in developing and evaluating internal communications strategies, including implementing communication frameworks and embedding communication plans
  • Proven success in the development of digital campaigns and strategies
  • Proven senior-level issues management and media liaison experience
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and principles
  • Proven experience in leading and developing a team of multi-disciplinary professionals
  • Proven budget management experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally
  • Willingness to be available 24/7 as required
  • High level organisational skills with a proven ability to manage competing tasks
  • Strong computer literacy and MS Office Skills. 


  • Experience in a healthcare or government organisation will be highly regarded.
