The Role:

The Cell Therapy and Flow Cytometry Laboratory at The Royal Children’s Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Scientist.  The successful applicant will have completed a Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) and have experience in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Processing and Diagnostic Flow Cytometry.

 

The person must have good laboratory, interpersonal and organisational skills. The ability to work well within a team as well as a service focus approach is essential.

 

The laboratory is operational from 0800 to 1930 hrs Monday to Friday with week-end on-call cover. There is some flexibility for the successful applicant with the hours to be worked.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or Bachelor of Science or equivalent. Where “equivalent” includes a degree awarded by an overseas tertiary institution which is recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition, which in the case of Medical Scientists is the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS).
  • Minimum 8 years postgraduate (qualification as defined) professional experience in a haematopoietic stem cell processing and flow cytometry diagnostic laboratory.
  • Specific experience in delivering an ISO 15189 compliant service is desirable
  • Specific experience in delivering a FACT-JACIE Processing Facility compliant service is desirable.
  • Recognised scientific training and competence relevant to the position including knowledge in analytical methods and information systems.
  • Relevant higher degree or fellowship of professional society (or in the process of working towards) is highly desirable.
