The Hospital:

The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) provides secondary and tertiary care to children and young people across the northern and western suburbs; specialist paediatric healthcare to the children of Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and parts of South Australia; and is the designated state-wide provider of services including paediatric trauma, rehabilitation and forensic medicine. As a quaternary centre for complex cardiac surgery and organ transplantation, the RCH cares for the sickest children from around Australia.

The Role:

The Social Worker will provide Social Work assessment and intervention to patients of the RCH and their families, working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team. The role may also provide supervision to another Social Worker, and involves participation in the on-call roster.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Eligibility for membership of AASW and meet AASW CPE accreditation standards
  • Clinical experience recognised in closely related field of practice
  • Demonstrated capacity to respond to vulnerable children, trauma and bereavement
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and effectively articulate the social work role
  • A strong understanding of community resources and legislation relevant to children and families
  • A current driver's licence
