The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne is one of the world’s great Children’s hospitals.  We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, Southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

 

Our Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) is the major centre for children’s cancer care in Victoria (and our patients from Tasmania) and the only provider of complex children’s cancer and stem cell transplantation in the state.

 

The CCC has a vacancy for an Art Therapist to join the team on a part time basis (0.60 FTE) fixed-term until 30/6/22.

 

The Art Therapy Program aims to provide therapeutic intervention for patients from 2-18 years of age and their families, utilising art to address children’s emotional, social, cognitive, cultural and spiritual needs in a non-verbal, safe and contained manner.   

 

The Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering a developmentally appropriate Art Therapy program for children and their families in both the inpatient and outpatient settings in the CCC.  This includes providing coping skills to assist the child and their family members’ adjustment to illness, hospitalisation, medical interventions and separations.  The candidate will also be required to participate in research and evaluation protocols to assess program outcomes.

 

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Recognised qualification of Masters of Art Therapy.
  • Evidence of eligibility for professional membership of ANZACATA and adherence to their code of ethics.
  • A thorough understanding of childhood development.
  • Previous experience utilising Art Therapy modalities in working with children.
  • Experience providing Art Therapy services in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
