The position:


RCH Mental Health has a vacancy for a Senior Psychiatric Nurse / Senior Project Officer.  The position is the professional leader of psychiatric nursing (0.5EFT) and the lead for clinical projects to develop RCH Mental Health into an evidence-based, outcomes-driven service (0.5EFT).


The Senior Psychiatric Nurse is accountable for delivery of high quality nursing services across RCH Mental Health, and in particular provides oversight of recruitment, credentialing, professional development and maintenance of professional standards. The role plays an important role in the implementation of Victoria’s Mental Health Act (2014).


The Senior Project Officer role works with the Operations Manager and the Project Officer to develop and implement change projects to increase care quality, efficiency and sustainability for RCH Mental Health. These projects relate to all aspects of the service and will have as their purpose the delivery of consistently high quality care in partnership with consumers, families and colleagues, fostering a culture of enquiry and promoting staff wellbeing. The role includes high level oversight and engagement with activity tracking and reporting through the RAPID/CMI data system across Mental Health.


The successful candidate will play a vital role in the delivery of great mental health nursing care across community teams in Mental Health, and will work closely with the Nurse Unit Manager (Banksia Ward), Psychiatric Nurse Consultant and Director Clinical Operations to ensure the delivery of great mental health care in the Banksia Ward.


The role is ideally suited to a motivated senior mental health nurse with a track record of experience in project delivery and development of the specialist mental health nursing discipline who is looking for wider experience and a new setting in which to develop their expertise.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Tertiary and postgraduate qualifications in psychiatric nursing
  • Demonstrated  experience in working in a range of CAMHS settings

Please note: paediatric experience is desirable but not essential.
