The Role:

The Complex Colorectal Service is a tertiary referral service within the department of General Surgery.  It is a multi-disciplinary team involved in the clinical and research needs of patients with complex colorectal conditions.  The Colorectal Senior Clinical Psychologist will work within the multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive colorectal psychology assessment, intervention and referral service for inpatients, outpatients and families of the RCH, and contribute to ongoing research efforts as required.  Working in collaboration with the social worker, Nurse CNC and other team members, the psychologist will support the emotional needs of these families, including adjustment to illness and new diagnosis, trauma, bereavement, psychological health issues or mental health needs, adherence to treatment and parenting support.


This is a new position generously funded by the RCH Foundation in order to assess the ongoing requirements for psychological support of patients with colorectal conditions.  The successful applicant would be involved in the set up and evaluation of this service, including quality assessment, intervention and referral services for patients of the service.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Full registration under the Psychology Board of Australia with endorsement in clinical or health psychology with at least 5 years of experience working as a psychologist.
  • APAC approved masters level postgraduate training in clinical/health psychology, with extensive experience in, and knowledge of, child and adolescent development
  • Expert knowledge of the psychological impact of severe health issues on children, young people and their families
  • Expert knowledge in more than one therapeutic modality 

Approved supervisor status with the PsyBA is an advantage.
